How accurate is a due date calculator?
Most due date calculators use Naegele's Rule, which adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). This provides a helpful estimate, but only a small percentage of babies are born on their exact due date.
Many babies arrive within about two weeks before or after their due date. Your doctor may adjust the date later based on an ultrasound scan.
Why knowing your due date matters
- Monitoring growth: Helps track whether your baby is developing on schedule.
- Scheduling tests: Many prenatal tests happen at specific weeks.
- Planning: Helps you prepare the nursery and pack your hospital bag.
